I can't remember which one I got first, but about 15 years ago, i had a red tail shark, bala shark and irridescent shark. I didn't know better but luckily I got rid of them before they got too big as I got tired of them for some reason.

A three spot gourami when I was about 8... dang thing seemed to live forever. I had let the tank go till the water was green. When I was taking everything apart I was amazed to see he was still alive, just couldnt see him. So gave him to a friend.
When I was a kid we had 3 large oscars but technically they were dads...
My first was a blue gourmai I got 3 years ago and the only fish my son didn't kill and has cycled every tank I owned. I just cant kill this fish!

almost identical story, same game, same place, mine was in a 40 table style acrylic tank when i was about 9ish. he lived a little over a year and grew decently, to this day i cant quite figure out why he died.Bllib;1752517; said:

My first fish was a blue gill that I had caught in the lake when I was 5 and made my grandpa help me keep it or at least until I wasn't at my grandparents house and they ate it! 
But as far as actual fish keeping my first was a Bala Shark which over 2 1/2 years before I had to move grew to about 9 to 10 inches in lenght (longer if you add in tail lenght) and about 2 1/2 to 3 inches in thickness. I miss my fresh water sharks, I may have to set up a tank and get some more.
