I've got a tank setup at a doctors office and I want to spice it up a little bit. I has some very nice african cichlids in it already, but they seem to want more variety. What would mix well? all of the fish are <3", and its a 90 gallon surfline. (might be 75 but I think its 90)
any other fish that will spice it up and mix well is what I'm after. I'm not a big fan of most african cichlids, so I dont know much about them! I'll leave it up to you pros now. Thanks!

It would be best to know what else is in there before any suggestions can be made. Some species of mbuna are very aggressive and may end up killing what you add or what you have in there already.

Labidochromis caeruleus (yellow lab) is always a crowd pleaser and easy to obtain, as are Metriaclima estherae (red zebra) and Metriaclima lombardoi. If you post some pictures, your fish could be identified.

old pics. the fish are bigger than this now.

I agree with Joe. From your pic I see "yellow labs", "electric blues", and maybe some Copadichromis specie  . It appears that you have plenty of space for now, but depending on which species and how many you have that tank could be maxed out in several months. I'm not clear on the main question, are you wanting to add african cichlids that might be compatible or other types of fish like the synodontis that was suggested? From the pic, it did not look like you had any overly aggressive species. Actually looks like a very promising show tank.

I have a SA/African com tank. I added a few Silver Dollars because most of my fish would hide in the rock work. I tell you.. like everyone says, they work great as a dithers. I also had some clown loaches in there. A couple GT, Geo's and a Bichir Delhezi are also in the tank. They all worked well, but I didnt have as many Mbuna as you have in there.

If you wanna keep it african, why not some Fronts.

Thats a pretty tall tank when you look at how much higher the top of the tank is from the rocks. Probably some top-mid water swimmers. How about some upsidedown cats?

Thanks for the response guys, It doesnt have that many fish in it any more, I lost a few for some reason. I kinda like the silver dollar idea, just to break things up a bit, and I've thought about clown loaches. I'm just looking to add some variety to the tank (They say thats what they want.....more "variety")

If I get any more fronts they'll be mine. :grinyes:

Some fronts would be a great addition if you want to keep it african. . . but with a little more rock stacking and some more dividing of space so to speak. . . you can have a lot more fish in there than you might originally think. A few plants and something floating like water sprite, hornwort, or anacharis would also help keep their stress level down. . . remember that fish are more worried about what's above the surface than they are what's down below. . . it's that whole unseen danger aspect. A few of the Julido species would be another beautiful and interesting addition too. . .
