What wood is this?

Looks like hardwood from a tree, my guess is oak. But who knows, if it still has SAP in it its a no go, try baking it on the lowest temp ur oven has for a few hours to help dry out.

It was a downed tree when we cut it. Looked to have been there for years. We just cut it with a saw and there was no sap. I thought it might have been cedar but it was infested with insects.

Bake it, boil it, bake it, let it dry.
