OK so I posted this thread in the freshwater diseases and health issues section but got no replys after a few days so I'm reposting it here. OK so about 2 weeks ago I started treat my fish with prazi and metro beacause some of them had white / clear feces and some of my fish were flashing a lot (I know it wasn't ich beacause they were flashing and developmented no white spots and were still flashing days later) I'm pretty sure it was flukes and it's gone now. But some of my fish still have white stringy feces. I know some parisites can't be cured with metro and prazi and I'm not exactly sure what parisite I have and if it's getting better and what I'm doing is working or not. So I snapped some pics of my jack Dempseys white poop and I noticed a white "pod" in it which may or may not mean anything but I have no idea what it is maybe it's a dead work I have no idea. Here are some pics. Do the pics help determine exactly what type of worms my fish have so I don't have to keep blinding giving them prazi and hoping it's a work prazi will treat? Also if my meds are working would it cause an increase in white feces? And my green terror has had these clear feces for a while, not white but clear, he had some today but it was also brownish which might mean it's improving???

It's just weird how it's clear/white and looks stuff and not really long and stringy and white.

From what I see in the pics seems like the JD is looking for food which is a good sign. What do you feed them ?

Hikari cichlid stable, aqueon sinking pellets, roofing floating pellets, flakes(mainly for the giant danios) and Omega one super veggie color and I just ordered hikari bio gold. Also I ordered some API general cure to soak food in(I would have just gotten metro but I was getting sand for my reef tank I'm setting up and I needed to order more to get free shipping and they didn't have just metro) and garlic guard so they would eat in case my fish have hex which prazi is useless against. My fish east well it's just they have white clear feces(only my jack dpsey and green Green terror have it but mostly the jack Dempsey) some of my other fish used to have it but have normal feces now.

I soaked my food in Metronidazole after dissolving Epsom salts into the water, forget the General Cure.

I noticed some color in the feces of the JD so things may be improving if you notice labored breathing or lack of appetite then I would worry.

I'm going to soak the food in general cure, it has metro in it, I got general cure beacause foster and Smith had no metro plus only general cure which has metro and prazi in it. And I needed to get it from there beacause I wanted to get free shipping for my sand.

he is eating but not aggessivley, which might be beacause I'm using prazi right now.

Hi! We can't really answer all of those questions without more information, but treating worms can indeed promote more white feces as worms are expelled. Brown is a good sign.

However, it should be noted that this can be caused by parasites other than worms. People online always refer to intestinal parasites as worms, but flagellates are actually a really common cause in cichlids. Especially in discus. They can cause a lot of different issues, and are known to be the primary pathogen associated with "Hole in the Head" (HITH) disease in freshwater fish. In the past people thought it was hexamita, but recent research suggests otherwise. Anyway, you probably already treated for them if you're using metronidazole. That's what I would recommend. Prazi for worms, metro for flagellates.

I'd say keep watching for improvement. Maybe a little salt in the water would help prevent transmission to other fish, but I haven't really checked to see if it is a known solution.

Best of luck!

Thanks, btw when my general cure and garlic guard comes how should I go about making medicated food? Should I put some general cure powder in a cup filled up like 1/4 and let the food sit for a while then bathe it in garlic guard? Or should I mix it with garlic guard and metro at the same time? And should I let it dry before feeding it? Also is prazi only effective as a bath or orally too? And assuming all my fish eat the medicated food will I be OK only feeding metro and not putting it in the tank?
