Even in a 220g tank, a festae would tear up a GT. Festaes and GT's just don't mix well. I keep both.

I agree,once the festae reaches 8"(6 for female)You will have trouble

with that festae your going to need a 6-7 foot tank don't go with anything smaller or go with different fish

Hmm what if i scrapped the festae idea and got a pair of fire mouths? They're pretty small compared to the other guys or would a pair terrorize the tank just as much?

Would a pair of Firemouths terrorize the tank?

:ROFL::ROFL:

I'm going with no on that one. They'll flare their gills and make threats and then get their a** handed to them.

Don't scrap the Festae. My Festae have never bothered any of their tankmates unless breeding and then it was open season on anything that moved. My suggestion is a 6' x 2' tank with at least one Festae and at least one Managuense plus the Jack and Texas you want. My2.

Hahahaha thanks bro. I've never bought firemouths 'cause they seemed like wusses in the tank at the LFS, guess I was right.

Abt the jag, Don't know if I wanna keep one really. My friends jag out grew his other tank mates then went on a spree. Anyway I'll ponder on it while my GT and JD are still growing. Thanks for the input everyone

I keep both too and have had no problems, the festae and the GT are the peacekeepers in the tank.
Soon i will have F0 GT gold saum to join my F0 festae.

He said a festae, not a pair. so if he got a female which gets 12" MAX i dont see how he'd need a 6-7ft tank. My F0 FEMALE is in a 120 4by2by2.

I wouldn't recommend putting pairs of fish into a community setting. Your fish wind up with ripped up fins, wounds or dead. Oh and you named 6 fish btw, not 5. Without pairs (just 6 individual fish) a 180 or 215 might work but a 240L would be awesome.

I think you meant 240g, but yeah, I agree. As someone else mentioned, the sex of your individuals will play a part in how well this works out as well. Try to stick with female individuals if possible. The pairs are going to pose the greatest difficulties, IMO. Once a pair of any type of cichlid starts a spawn, they have a tendency to get really nasty when defending their territory. Giving the pairs enough space to form a territory is going to be a key to success here.

...or did you mean a 240 long? Either way, I knew what you meant. I just wanted to clarify in case the OP didn't.

I kept the festae (11 inches) in my avatar in a community 125 with no trouble.

Yeah thanks for clarifying, I meant 240-long. Sometimes I take it for granted that everyone knows this stuff but you're right. I should have made it more clear for those who may not be as experienced with standard tank sizes. :thumbsup:
