I would stick to pantherophis or colubrids for now. There are some great boas and pythons out there but many of them get quite large. I would consider a giant hognose and FWC snakes to be kept by very experienced keepers because of their attitude and somewhat potentially dangerous venom. Bull snakes, and beauty snakes are both harmless and cheap and impressive. I have a 5' FL pine snake that will hiss very loudly and give a good show but is a complete baby when I pick him up. He is great for educational shows and I have used him countless times.
