What would be a good intermediate snake?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I would stick to pantherophis or colubrids for now. There are some great boas and pythons out there but many of them get quite large. I would consider a giant hognose and FWC snakes to be kept by very experienced keepers because of their attitude and somewhat potentially dangerous venom. Bull snakes, and beauty snakes are both harmless and cheap and impressive. I have a 5' FL pine snake that will hiss very loudly and give a good show but is a complete baby when I pick him up. He is great for educational shows and I have used him countless times.

Ok thanks man. So the bull snake would be good for presentations? Can you keep 2 bullsnakes in the same enclosure? It would be cool to have a normal and a funky morph to show. My presentations are on genetics and adaptations so an albino would be cool to compare to a normal. How are beauty snakes for tempement? I can't find much on them other than theyre pretty. Haha. I hadnt even thought of attitudes being a problem thanks for pointing that out. So I guess it's now down to a bull snake
Beauty snake
Cuban rock iguana.
I think the burm is a little out of my league where price and availability is concerned. I was hoping to find something the lrs could order in so I can support them. They have access to some cool stuff, rhino/rock iguanas, fwc, lots of cool native snake morphs. But I think that The burm is out. Maybe later in life...

The beauty snake is pretty good I think, but go for CB. Why would you keep two snakes in own enclosure? Not a risk worth taking.

two bull snakes will be fine together as long as you separate them for feeding.

Ok. I love how the burm is look and fact wise. But they seem too hard to get. Maybe my next big enclosure. I'm really liking the idea of the bull snakes or beauty snake. Especially if the bulls would put on a show for the kids. That would be cool, a defensive adaptation...

I believe Tom Reagan has some adult males for sale right now. http://market.kingsnake.com/detail.php?cat=93&de=863934 He will be hatching out more babies in a couple months, you could ask him how much they would cost. They will be more than a Bull or Beauty though. What about a Rainbow Boa?

I've thought of getting a boa, I really like the look of some of the locality bci, especially San isrido and liberia costa rica. Along with the epicrates sp. but I dont think I'm ready for a snake that powerful. Even the smaller bci can get to 9 feet if space/food allows, and a 8 foot colubrid is half as thick/ powerful as a 8 foot boa. If someone could convince me on rainbow boas I would own one in a heartbeat, but like I said the power they have has me on edge with them...

Those males are a pretty good deal; I was thinking about getting the double het male at one point.

A rainbow boa definitely isn't as heavily built as a Boa constrictor plus some of them only get to be 4' long (although they can hit 7' long with 5' to 6' long being the typical length).

ok i didnt realize the rainbows where so small. i will look into some brb's they would be very cool.
so
