I wanna do this once and have it done right. Gone be setting up a 180 soon with a rather large bio load. Gonna make it a bare bottom or tile setup. I'm making a DIY dump filter above the tank and I'm gonna use a 1600gph water pump inline and make my own intakes. The pump and filter will be in the center of the tankwith the filtered water dumping right down the center. Would It collect more waste with a PVC pipe going straight down to the bottom and teeing off down the length of the tank. Or will it be better teeing off at the top and doing a 90 down each side? Gonna have plenty of circulation in the tank with the water itself falling down from the top and two 900gph circulation pumps in each end. Also the PVC will obviously have holes drilled all over. What do you guys think?

Imo I would intake on one side and return on the other side. That way you get current across the tank length. If I used tees I would put maybe 1 in the intake line (underwater) to try to take in water at multiple depths. But don't overthink this. Check out the stickies and check uarujoey @ www.diyfishkeepers.com there's no point trying to reinvent the wheel. Simple is better.

I agree with King. By having the intake one on side of the tank, you can direct all flow towards it, therefore cleaning the water much better. It will be much more difficult to direct the flow into the Middle of the tank.

Roger that, Thanks guys! just tryin to get creative! I only have 1 pump to work with for now so tryn to make it the best.

Just to be on the same page your saying add in intake on the PVC running down to the Intake on the bottom right? Also the only reason I was thinking the center is because Im kind of a perfectionist and like things symmetrical lol. I guess Ill have to get over it lol

You can do it either way you'd like. I feel the most effective way would be in one corner with all the flow pointed towards it.
