Ok.... You have a 5ft x 18" x 16" acrylic tank...

Pick a "Monster" you would have in this tank...
The idea is you'd most likely have it in here for life... "Monster" doesn't need to be size, but perhaps attitude.

I myself have a 2 flowerhorn, I would put either in there.. Otherwise make it a bichir tank...

I'm not really sure what other "monsters" could go in therre for life..

Piranha
Large school of exodon tetras
Oscar
Dovii. - Or will they get to big?
African Lungfish

What would you pick? What would be your monster for that tank?

Dovii would get too big. 18" width means you want fish that don't get larger than 12".
Still a ton of good options for that tank size. Plenty of cichlids I would like to keep. As far as non-cichlids go, I would like to try an erythrinus wolf fish. Or channa (snakeheads) but they are illegal in the states unfortunately.

Gulper cat, hemibagrus nemurus cat, black mask elongatus pirahna.... Leopard puffer. Sheeps head pacu.

Female Festae as a wet pet, with a nice school of Roseline sharks and picture cats.

1 ridiculously aggressive adult flowerhorn/red devil/texas etc. with the hope that a pleco, bichir or eel can live in there with enough hiding spaces.
