What would MFK suggest for a 33 gal long tank

Dimensions, 36x12x18"? Discus would do better is a taller tank and would need to upgrade.

I'm having alot of fun with my 55g planted. Lots of tetras and amano shrimp. You could do something along those lines.

So thats a no go on the discus.....

I dont have the patients for a planted tank-
I also ended up giving away all my stuff to a friend for running a planted tank-(stupid mistake awhile back)-Now I have nothing for one....
As much as I would like to have one-It just wouldn't work out with my schedule...

I like the idea of a Shrimp tank------Just looking for something different to do here....

HEY how about you have a crayfish single specimen only with hatchets at the top.
 
Shrimp would be spectacular, you could even keep them with smaller schooling species like ember tetras, cory catfish. Add some nicely colored pomacea bridgesii <diffusa> and you would have an interesting and active tank. The only thing is that the shrimp would have a much better survival rate with fish if you did some dense low light planting. Something like mosses which can do fine in 1wpg would give the young shrimp a place to hide out and grow. I have about 10 of these type tanks set up, they are my personal favorite. I buy shop lights from home depot/lowe's for about $18 and can get about 2wpg. I hang them pendant style as they are not particularly sturdy. I can grow things like hygros, crypts, ferns, mosses, anubias, rotala, ludwigia, etc. I don't bother with co2 or ferts but the shrimp, snails, and fish thrive. Its a beautiful tank idea.


Another option would be a couple angels, but not with shrimp. Any cichlid, even dwarf species+shrimp=dinner.

Nope a planted shrimp tank with marbled hatchets and possible a betta splenden or some other peaceful betta would be nice or a school of celebes rainbows or a pair of peacock gobies and shrimp would be VERY nice..And some marbled hatchets =P I think about 30 shrimp would be cool with a small shoal of 6 - 8 small fish like black skirt tetras,Neons,Cardinals,Celebes rainbow,Threadfin Rainbow,Bleeding Hearts,striped barbs,rasboras or golden or normal zebra danios =]]That'd be cool..If you get some cheap fish like the zebra danios then you could splash out on a load of beautiful Sulawesi Shrimp and maybe some elephant snails =O(Maybe I don't know abour snails with shrimp & fish =)))
