What would you do? Empty 180g = 1 fish

If your limit is $1000 why don't you go for a ray for the bottom and an Arowana for the top.

Or a large fire eel, they are friendly every time I stick my hand in the tank I have 2 or 3 eels coming over to say hi.

I saw a madagascar species that if I were ever going to do a single specimen tank I would definetely use. I can't find anything on the net under the name the guy gave me so Im going to e-mail him and see if he can give me the scientific name or something. It was an amazing black bodied fish with long fins and all kinds of colourful spots.. hard to describe.. mean personalities and very stunning.

Personally i suppose i'd go with a LARGE jag and aquascape the heck out of the tank. The bioload would be pretty low for such a large tank, and it would have all the room it could ever want (plus you could be in the hunt for the 18" jag that only appears every so often)

if it were my tank, i'd either go for a jaguar cichlid(very neat fish) large puffer, or a betta. yes, i'd put a betta in one, mostly just for the hell of it but also because it would be the ultimate low maintainence tank.

I have kept a myriad of tropical in my years in the hobby.. there is 1 particular single specimen fish that stands out to me above all others..

Of course, you could do a traditional bruiser cichlid, as Dovii would be ideal by himself in a 180g, as would a Buttikoferi..

and although Rays, Aba Aba knife and Mbu Puffer are at the top of my list, maximum size becomes an issue.. so without a doubt, the best single specimen fish for 180g tank is..

FAHAKA PUFFER!!

I owned one of these guys and they are amazingly smart, highly interactive, and awesome predators.. I am telling you, if you want someone to say "wow, what the hell!?" when they see your single pet fish.. get yourself a 16" clam eating beast.. full of color, too. and when they ask, "is a saltwater tank hard?", watch their jaw drop when you tell them it's completely freshy!

:D

I honestly thought that puffer was SW when I saw the pic then looked back to see if it was or not :P. I am waiting on that fish name though and if I can find a pic it's even better than the puffer :p.
