If this is true how would they prove how long you did or didn't have something?
I would guess that its same deal with the grandfathered snakeheads before the ban.

I do not think there were any grandfathered snakeheads... if this were true I am fairly certain there could still be legal snakeheads in the us (which there is not) .

Laws are applied prospectively unless it was intended to be retrospective.

Normally, they will allow you to keep it subject to permits and regulations. from observations though in AUS, there are a lot of illegal fish coming in from the "backdoor" which Fisheries seems to be playing blind and deaf on. Problem also is there is no national law and it is state laws that determines legality of fish. It may be legal on my state, but when i cross boarder it's noxious already.

Fines are huge, but I have not heard of anybody being penalised. I'll look the other way now and just pretend nothing happened.

#2 just imagine a cop with a warrant to search for them though.

It wouldn't be the police. It would be F&W officers just like the multiple vendors and members from this site that have opened their doors to such surprises before.

BTW, the federal snakehead ban had no grandfathering clause. All SHs in possession were to be either euthanized by their owners or taken to vets to be euthanized. MD was the only state to maintain that dwarf tropical species still be allowed.
