Ang, i absolutely LOVE dogs. But, your son is only one year old .You would be getting a puppy, and that would mean you would have to potty train, chew train, and basically be the adult for that dog (setting boundaries, teaching it doggy manners lol etc.. ). Labs are great with kids, but require daily exercise-like all dogs, so he would need to burn off a significant amount of energy daily.

As much as i love dogs, i would wait til your little boy was about 5-6 to get one-that way he can start sharing responsibility in training it and feeding it with you. I think it would be just too much on you, but maybe not..

either way, do what you feel is right in your heart- you know what activities you have going on and whether you have time to raise a doggie too..

best wishes to you! I know how hard it is to pass up those cute, wiggly puppies..

I agree with knowda.

And I'm just gunnu ignore that comment by latshki.....:yuck:

well the only nice cats are fat ones
my cat throws up on my bed and sneezes on me while chewing on my hair
but some cats are alright but fat ones are the best

:)

I have a yellow lab myself, his name is Gunner. He is the best dog I have ever had. But, a lab is a very rambunctious puppy and will be a lot of work. I want to tell you to get the dog but I think you should wait till your child is a few years older.
If you need a dog right away I would check the humane society then. My best friend, a brother and I all got excellent dogs from the humane society. Very good with kids too.

is there anyway u would consider a adult dog, doesnt have to be too old just old enough to be so dependent and already trained. on craigslist theres tons of peopl sometimes giving out adult dogs and are sometimes just 1yr or old. they will usually say that the dog is already living with a small child and house trained and already has some sort of an idea on how to behave indoors. that would sound moer appealing to me than to have a puppy that needs ALOT more attention.

petfinder.com worked for me.
But I voted you wait, pups are a giant ball of energy and need constant attention.

On petfinder you could find a good match, maybe a familly with kids that has to give up their adult dog because of moving to apartments or something like that.

just wait. till he's like 3 then get one. he might pull on the tail and get bitten or something. even the nicest dog can turn on the drop of a dime on you.

actually thats why i got dogs when my daughter was very young, so u can teach them from an early age how to properly treat animals and handle them and what not to do. She has 2 very small dogs and a very big on and its becuase i taught her well on respecting dogs that she has never pulled a tail or anything like that. she knows exactly where to touch dogs, how and when not to. its important lessons.

1 year old is a bit too young i think. and puppies need care too. and you should train the dog yourself, bath it, feed it,etc. It gonna grow quicker than your son too. lol.
What about a little tank with some small tropical fish? ;)

haha...thats what i meant.... :D and Ang... i think if you were getting the dog for yourself with the baby in mind...it would be a different story... because you are the one who will be doing all the work...
