well if u didn't shoot him he would have came back in a couple of days and ran off with some more of ur birds so u did the right thing i have foxs commin up in my yard for these wild rabbits that i can feed out of my hand i know it's nature but them rabbits feel like my pets so i set some live traps to get rid of the foxs took them 2 miles from my house it wasn't far enough tho i'm gonna take them 10 miles next time i get them and if that don't work pray for them

I find the eyeball kinda funny. I'm used to seeing something similar since one of my friends lost an eye to retnal cancer. That cayote looked like it was in pretty sad shape. Sorry about the rooster too.

I think we're done with chickens, we've lost more than 30 of them to bobcats (17 to one!), hawks, raccoons, hawks, and now a coyote. I had to shoot the bobcat that ate 17 chickens, it was taking them out of my yard in the middle of the afternoon. I am tired of feeding the wildlife and even more tired of shooting them...

I think that's a good idea. Everyone has a right to keep whatever pets they want. But a pet that has to be outside at all times, can't make a good escape when predator is around... is obviously easy prey. And a bad pet for the conditions/area.

I give you kudos though. That coyote needed put down, and I don't know if I could have done it still. I believe the native animals own the land before us to a degree but you did the right thing.

WOA!! Poor pup!! I would call the Game office and see what they suggest...

I always thought it was common courtesy and knowledge to make sure your traps are pickled up or found if gone... But most people could care less about that species ... So they would likely see the snare gone and hope what you foudn was the case.

Fact is. The poor guy is suffering no more and that is due to your actions.. There is really in my opinion no way of finding out where the snare came from or how long the pup was in it... So not really much you could do.. And even if you could find the owner of the snare.. well.. I it likely you wouldn't get far with them.

If I may, and please forgive me if this comes out wrong, I would suggest the following:

When keeping smaller groups of livestock, say <50 (chickens, turkeys, sheep) I find it in ones best interest to provide the maximum amount of physical protection from the elements and predators.

I cannot help but to be disappointed in MYSELF whenever a weasel, coyote, fox, owl etc. is successful in removing one or more of my herd/flock. I do not blame them (predators) for they know not what they do. I figure out how they penetrated my holdings and do my best to fix the problem.

What you did for that coyote was the spot on. He had no alternative but to suffer until time, weather, starvation or you, took his llife. I commend your difficult decision.

There needs to be a sort of truce when it comes to creatures of the wild and the creatures we keep and care for. We need to understand that it is our responsibility to protect the domestic creatures from harm they are unaware of. Conversly, it is our responsibility to respect the wild creatures and protect them from themselves, and us by doing whatever possible to discourage them from seeking a free meal on our dime.

It is late, I apologize for the long-winded-ness.
Respectfully,

well its a good thing u shot it. looks like it would've been in too much pain because of that snare! anyways, i love chickens - i want a pet one but my dad won't let me because we only have access to a back garden and the cats keep on coming and digging in it so my dad had the whole thing cemented and now we only use it for bbqs. anyways i want a hen too :)

well i think your a big meany pie. it was your fault for not keeping the rooster safe...dur. i believe you cannot kill what you did not create, you didn't kill it for its own good....you killed it because it ate your rooster which you didn't protect properly. at least it had a good meal before it died.
i just like to mix it up a little ;)
