what would YOU do with a 225g 3' wide tank?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Not sure I would want 50 of them, but now that you mention it, I've always loved clowns. I've seen them in with rays, aro's, dats you name it and they live with it. So whatever I do decide there will be a group of clowns in there for sure.

Yeah I thought the tank wasn't big enough for aro's which is why it annoys me when I see people on here with them in 100 gallons and nobodys criticising

To be honest, I think minimum length for arowana is 6 ft, but 8 ft better.

My suggestion for more than 1 fish in community monster tank:
1 x fire eel
1 x dat
maybe 5 x clown loaches

It can't be 6x3x2 because then it would be the same as mine, but with 1 foot of length which would put you up to 270 gallons.

I'm suprised nobody has suggested Polypterus species yet!

Me personally if I had a 3' tank... I would go by a RTC and grow him in it until 3 foot that would give me plenty of time to start working on an indoor solution for more long term/life. I'm actually planning this after August but I only have a 18" wide tank so thats why im waiting until august to get a discounts on pools and also to buy a 24" wide tank.

aro or snakeheads....since your done w/ cichlids. Other wise id say a pair of kelberi.

I not want mid-layer and / or top-layer aggressive fish harrassing Polypterus when it goes up to breathe air. Your tank is enough big for endlicheri, but what other fish to put in there for mid-layer and top-layer dwellers to cause WOW or EEEWWW or HAHAH? Thought of few different cichlids but you don't want anymore cichlids so I am still thinking for now, hmm...

In the meantime, what you think of this idea:

1 x Dat
5 x Clown Loaches
30 x Tiger Barbs

Tell grandkids Dat = you (grandpa / grandma), Clown Loaches = mommy / daddy / uncles / aunties, and Tiger Barbs = child / siblings / schoolfriends / cousins, etc. Then, when Dat eats one of the Tiger Barbs, let child out of house, screaming as he / she runs down the street, "Grampa / Gramma ate the kids! Grampa / Gramma ate the kids!"

Like idea for fun afternoon?

Sounds like a very fun idea, but I'm only 21 so far away from becoming a grandfather haha
I like that all stripey tank Idea. but I feel like I need some monsterness in there.

as far as I was thinking

Some bottom dwelling catfish/poly etc
some midwater fish that are interesting and cool and most of all I want a community more than just 1 or 2 big evil fish.
something at the top would be cool but if I'm not big enough for an arro then i know thats out of the question.

I'm not against cichlids at all, just don't want to make them the main feature of the tank so if anyone can suggest something cool that would be great. I have a champsochromis caeruleus, but he is a major food hog so he wouldnt allow any new fish a chance to eat. plus he would attack and kill an arro no problem ,so thats why I'm thinking of completely restarting the tank so I can get all the fish with the right kind of sizes.

With that tank size, I'm thinking a shoal of Geophagus or Satanoperca sp. to go with the loaches :)
Maybe you can make it a fancy pleco tank? With some L25 or a group something as nice.
Rays would be better though... I live in Cali and can't keep them :/ So definitely rays for me.
And top it off with a young jardini raised with prepared foods only (too ease aggression)
Or a group of pink tail chalceus
