So... having shut down the Riparium I'm left with an entirely blank canvas. 6 Foot long, about 400L. 2 eheim 600's running giving 2000L p/h.

I've been thinking about doing a single specimen tank. Perhaps a grow out for an Asain or Jardini Aro, small shoal of red belly piranha or perhaps a focal SA/CA cichlid or two?

Not too hooked up on plants this time. I want it to be all about the fish. The tank is geared that way with simple black background and sand and good LED lighting. Photos as below (bit murky due to sand settling)

What would you do? Looking for inspiration! Both for simple decor (if any) and fish.

Personally I'd just slug in some large pieces of wood and do an SA tank; Festivum, Geophagus and perhaps a severum.

As for single specimen why not an Oscar? People love them for a reason ;)

I would do some rockscaping and add a single species of Lake Victoria cichlid. Personally I love the zebra obliquidens or the pundamilia nyererei. Might try to see if Nanochromis splendens is compatible with either for the lower levels of the tank.

I've considered a lone Oscar - not for me. I prefer the look of the Jack Dempsey or green terror. How exactly would you stock with the SA cichlids suggestion? I like it.

I have zero knowledge around African cichlids - but this does prompt me to do some research. What sort of rocks for the aquascape with your suggestion?

I have a single zebra in my current tank. Would love to do species tank Good looking fish and equally good personality. Pretty much any rocks will work. Not my pictures. Pulled images off the net.

I like the redbelly idea. Either that or another single species characin, chalceus or silver dollar shoal would be cool. Maybe even a group of metynnis and a group of mid sized pimelodus like ornatus or blochii.

How about a colony of convict cichlids? If I’m correct then the older batches of fry help in raising the younger fry which would be quite interesting in watching.

Definitely thinking hard about the piranha shoal. I had silver dollars in the previous setup with pim pictus and really liked them - just want to try something new now. I do worry however that my filtration is not enough for piranha (2 eheim 600 classics / 2217). Opinions on filtration?
