Ok, this is kind of a funny little thought, but just a hypothetical situation here.

Let's say you were looking at a thread on a certain forum and in one particular post, people were showing off their tattoos. Let's say that in this post, someone had a tattoo of what they thought was a certain phrase in a language they didn't speak. Let's say you, however, did speak this language, maybe not fluently, but enough to know that their tattoo did not say what they thought it did. Would you tell them, and how would you do it? Cause I mean, how embarrassing. Either let them go on, being made a fool of, but not knowing it, or letting them know their tattoo was wrong.... tough.

Hmm... let me see if I can get a poll up here.

one of my friends has a Chinese symbol on his shoulder he thought it meant X but it actually is very bad.... but yes i would tell a person there tattoo was wrong.... the look on there face would be priceless.... i would never have anything done on me in soemthing i couldnt read...

I agree. Getting tattooed in a language you don't speak is risky unless you know and trust the person giving it to you. Even if the artist doesn't intentionally give you something you didn't ask for, they may make a mistake accidentally.

But still, is it unnecessary to embarrass them by telling them their tattoo is wrong? I would want to know, myself, but I don't know what other people would prefer. Plus, what if I'm wrong, and the tattoo is some obscure reading of the phrase? I doubt it, but it could happen.

i would tell them but knowing the average joe.. they wouldn't just believe somebody off the street...

If you ever go into a tattoo shop and look at their "chinese symbols" or "kanji" you'll see in fine print it says "artists interpretation"..

If you're unsure I would leave it alone. Heck I think even if I was sure I'd leave it alone. Doesn't matter to me what it says. Really it's what it means to that person that matters more.

i would tell them, cause i would wanna know if mine was wrong.

I'd tell them, but I'm sure they wouldn't believe me. Denial is a very, very powerful thing.

Well I would want someone to tell me, I wouldnt want to embarass my self infront of someone who knows that language trying to tell them what it means.
