I personally don't get why someone would get a tatoo in the first place.... I don't want any permanent marks on my body that are gonna look wrinkled and nasty when i'm 80 years old!
But yes, I would tell them. Even if they didn't believe me, I think they have the right to know.

One of my friends is a hardcore diver, and he wanted the kanji for "water spirit" down his forearm. Well, lucky for him he has some common sense and brought me the design the tattoo artist gave him to check it first. It wasn't kanji, it was hiragana, and it read mizuko.
(みずこ. I don't really want to explain what that means, but, you can google it if you must.  It's a good thing he didn't get that tattoo, because now he works in a place where the boss is Japanese. Could you imagine explaining that tattoo to your boss?
