Hey everybody. Just wanted to know everyone's opinion. Sometimes I switch back and forth between getting a fish whose health is questionable because it is cheaper, sometimes 2X cheaper, to paying a lot more for a fish that looks healther. If I'm low on funds, sometimes I will buy the cheaper fish, as long as I think it's not difficult to make it better. The reason I'm asking is because I live in San Francisco and we have fish stores with a wide-variety of prices for the same type of fish.
I went to Aquatic Central yesterday and the fish were higher in price but the fish looked healthy. I usually go to 6th Avenue on Clement because they get a large variety of different types of fish and they are really cheap. I know the quality isn't as good, because of their high turn-over without letting the fish get settled and the practice of letting the public get their own fish. I've had mostly good luck buying fish there but I have to choose very carefully. I also know some of the staff so I get hints at what they are going to get and when so I can buy them almost as soon as they get them. I think because I get them as soon as they receive the fish, the fish don't have enough time to get sick. I don't know, that's just what I do. Thanks, Dr_Shakalu.

Well depending on the sitsuation and type of fish, I may do anyone of the three. So I didn't vote.

Well, if I see a fish I like, or want, I get it. A touch of fungus or ICH, or whatever does not worry me in the least. But this all goes with experience in clearing those things up. There is also the issue of determining whether or not a fish is too far gone. In that case, the answer is obvious... leave it in there.

In addition, sometimes a fish's INDIVIDUAL looks may warrant a higher price FOR MYSELF.
Example: I just got two xanthic Giant Gouramis. One was free, and the other was $70 or so. Sometimes one just has to pay extra (A LOT EXTRA sometimes) for a fish that has sentimental value, or individual value.

if you have only one tank you gotta buy healthy imo
if you have a hospital tank you can try them all !~!!

That's what I say too, but I go for healthy fish first. But I will always take a deal!

Whenever I get fish from 6th I always quarnt. the fish. Even though the fish might be at the store for a short time, they are still being exposed to their water/disease.
