Re-sealing isn't has hard as you might think. The part that takes the longest is scraping out the old silicon and making sure the seams are REALLY clean. Practise on a small tank first, like a cheap 10 gallon. Remember to let the new silicon cure completely before adding water, at least two days.

The cold water shouldn't affect the tank.

ive done it before on a 45 with a friend but we didnt trust ourselves. its held up. but if i cant trust my self with a 45, an 180 is a lot more water
