Basically what the title states. It is time to finally upgrade to a newer, sexier, flashy and FAST computer. Well, I guess I would be just happy if it was lightning fast. I am tired of waiting and waiting and waiting and waiting during my RAW-PSCS2 workflow sessions...

So what would your dream configuration be? Intel or AMD? Dell, HP or MAC? What type and size HD? Processing speed? etc.... etc.....

I am not looking to build a system from the ground up. So any advice and input is greatly appreciated.

Help me spend my money!!!!!

Price is not really a issue..... :) I am more interested in speed than in size. As an example, a fast HD is more important than its capacity. Fastest processor, HD etc...

Take a look at the Computer Speed Test thread. The guys with the great times have the impressive machines ie. hir0, phishphorphun, Jay, are all running AMD dual core processors. Add this with 2gigs of quality RAM, a new generation video card (7800GT / GTX etc ), and some SATA 7200rpm HDD's to the capacity of your needs. This should see a significantly better running speeds.

I have a HP with a AMD Athlon 4200+ 64x2 dual core processor. 2 gigs of RAM. 250 g 7200 rpm HD.

Super fast using CS2 and the Bridge. Maybe the fastest time in the speed test. And fairly good price. I think it was around $800 after rebates.

7200's Imho are quite slow.
Grab some 10,000rmp WD raptors and put em in raid0 ;) or get faster. Its a real sticking point for pc's today.

All my hdd's are raptors now.. it really is a huge speed increase, mostly if your a windows user. Your fast hdd improve your virtual memory, and all of windows runs MUCH faster.

edit* never skimp on your motherboard .. get the best faster chipset and board!!

i also think dual core is the way to go these days.. p4 died after the "d" heh.

my "last job" was selling pc's haha

Holy smokes. Go with Hiro's suggestion if no budget is a concern.

Also, check out SATA II instead of I for faster speeds.

BTW, what is your timeline for picking up this computer? New chips are coming out this fall.
