What would you guys think of

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I'd watch it.
I dont think you would run into legal liabilities, But I beleive there is a moral obligation involved. This is not what the great reptile conservatives would advise people to do. If a 10 year old kid gets killed using your methods, you plus the snake get a bad rap. There are already hundreds of snake catching videos out there, Even BBC has one on youtube, so why would people buy yours?

If you want a successful video then you will have to be a bit more original. You will need a very charasmatic enthusiastic personality on film. Do something not many people have done. Documenting a herping adventure would be entertaining. Snake husbandry would be boring, but informative. All depends on what your objective is.

Okay, thanks for the input guys. I was certainly planning on explaining that I would not be held responsible and that this video is not going to prevent a bite from happening etc but I will certainly expand on that. and maybe have a disclaimer in the beginning.

As for the catching a snake part goes I think that if I can include a message of environmental awareness (such as how these snakes are important to the ecosystem and that most of them should be left where they are and more) so that maybe I can instill good habits about field collecting before they become the type of people that keep and resell everything they find. Does that sound acceptable?

I found out it would cost about $7 to make a nice DVD with the case so if I sell them for either $10 or $15 I would make just enough to get a little pocket change and still keep the prices down. I think I will start them at $15 and see how they sell at the first show I take them to and maybe adjust the price from there.

Again, thanks for the input and please keep it coming.

You are going to be a star! Now you need a catch phrase or habit so people remember you.

Like Steve Irwin - "what a little beauty" and "crikey"
Jeff Corwin - comedy and characters
Rom Whitaker - has the white bushy hair
Brady Barr - screams like a girl when he gets bit
Austin Stevens - is still just a d______ bag!

I forgot about Bryan Fry's bald head, Mark O'shea's goatee, Jesus Rivas' bare feet.

haha, any suggestions? should I wear a mohawk and talk in a weird accent or something? I am not becoming an austin stevens repeat as my trademark though, sorry.

how about good facts and no gimmick? I have a good stage presence that translates well on screen and a good amount of facts to get people some
base knowledge. Hopefully that is all I need. If something evolves into a catch phrase or something then awesome but I dont think they should be forced.

Still would like to hear suggestions on one though, this could get funny....

You might want to leave out the part about catching snakes. The next thing you know, drunk college kids running all over rattlesnake country, the results of that wouldn't be pleasant, given how stupid people on youtube can already be, even when sober. Legal liabilities, I don't think you'll be facing any, with the exception of an overzealous relatives of any victims.
