What would you have done?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I think I would've done the same thing. Idk I would be concerned about the ray personally I know if its that small that will be ok form a few months but not for a noob to take on. It was kind of late to talk him out of the ray. I'm not trying to be negative but I am picturing this ray dying as I'm writing this.

yah me too. so he texted me another pic and he added a friggin silver aro about 6-7" with her in that 30 gal. wtf is this kid thinking???

so this is kinda a long story, but just want to know what you guys would have done. monday i was at the lfs and bumped into my cousin there and he asked how my ray was doing. we talked a little small talk and continued our shopping. after we were done talking a kid i'd guess to be in his early 20's says "hey i ordered and am getting a stingray in 2 days". so he started to ask alot of basic noob questions (wich i didn't mind answering at all) but i could tell he felt in over his head. so i asked him what kind, tank size, filtration, all the basics. he told me he didn't know what kind and he had a 55 gal with a hob. i said be ready to upgrade real soon, and had a little more chit chat and he kinda stumbled on some of the details he told me. well long story short he has a 30 gal long that wasn't even set up yet. i told him that his ray will die from the bacteria cycle and told him to get some api stress zyme, then asked him where he lived. he lived real close to me so i told him that if he wanted he could stop by with some buckets and get some of my established water. he said he didn't have any that he'd get some and swing by. he showed up with 1 bucket. so i said that wouldn't be enough so i filled his bucket along with 5 of mine so he could fill his whole tank. he said thanks and that he'd drop my buckets off on thursday. ik it's a long story to read, but what would you have done??

pointed him in the direction of MFK

Not thinking.. prolly listening to what he wants to hear .. ie that the arrow and ray will be fine in that sized tank... Ive seen it for so many years in the industry in general.. and gotten fired from one lps for giving honest advise instead of "selling" sadly these are the people who keep the crappy stores in business... because these fish are "cool" and 55gal tanks are "huge". Ive reccomended this site to more people then I can count over the last few years when Ive seen them either getting bad advise or wanting more advise on the "bruisers" of the fishtank world. heck I even send people here for general compatability questions for their community tanks...

And you've done more then most would for this guy. sad that the fish suffer for his disreguard for their well being.

i did as well tell him to join the site in hopes he would read up on these fish. the story was kinda long so i left out some of the details. just really bothered me and i tried to do as much as i could but the balls in his court now.

don't have any. i run 100% bio filters. well, i do have the sponges in the fx5's i'll see if he'll pick one up.

Just give him a handful of bio then!

Also you can make the trip to his house and test his water every week to make sure or its for sure certain death. Rays are awesome but not for beginners. Either way that's nice of you to offer great advice and help!

Damn . This kid really needs some mfk in his life. Definitely doesn't know ethics of fish keeping. I feel bad for both fish.
