I am thinking about getting a barred midas(white with back stripes, how they look in the wild) and I was wondering what you would keep with it. Leave tank size out of the question because I just want to know what you would keep with it.

tankmates will vary with tank size... for example a 75 would be best for a solo midas and a school of dithers... in a 125+ you can start adding smaller cichlids..

Like I said keep tank size out of the question. I just want to know what species would be good to keep with a midas

The main problem IS tank size...in a five foot tank, not much would survive except maybe a medium sized catfish;

In a 7-8 foot tank, you can have a reasonable CA community.

No need to be mean to me I don't want a fight. I was planning something in the 125g range. If you don't have something helpful to say then get off my thread.

For 125 you can try any number of the aggressive CA cichlids...but you have to start them off young. and have them grow together.

a 6 inch red devil/midas killed every cichlid in my 5 foot tank; In my 6 foot tank some years ago, I was able to have an eight inch devil living in relative peace with 3 or 4 other fish before a move terminated that tank(sold all the fish).

Your millage will vary with individual fish.

If tank size was out, you can keep almost anything with a midas as long as the midas cannot eat it.

agree.

Tank size will have an effect on selection. I keep a barred Midas(of some sort, petsmart rescue) with a festae, freddy, jd, convict, silver dollars and loricariids in a 300. a lot will also depend on the individual temperament. Our Midas is the biggest fish in the tank, but he doesn't run it.
he's actually pretty mellow for a Midas
