What would you make a good cave out of?

Buy some 6" river rocks from Home Depot. They are pretty easy to stack and make small caves out of.

i use lace rock and clay pots all diff size and break somebig ones up

terracotta pots, pvc pipe, that clear ghost knife tubs, slate rocks, try searching on here for some better ideas.

searh for diy rock background, i suppose you cud make a nice set up using this method. styrofoam and a caving knife, cover it in cement and you can have any kinda rock formation you lik, plus it dont weigh a ton lik real rock do.ha.

I would think you would have to seal the cement cave too, becuase i'm pretty sure portland cement a main ingredient in cement is super toxic ( if you get it in your eyes you go blind). Tel me if i'm wrong thought i don't know!

I postponed using clay pots for a long time because I thought they were ugly, then I found out once you put them in your hardly notice them. Plus, they're super cheap. I just boiled them for a quick bit (kill all those nasties floating around the garden section) and got the biggest drill bit I had and made a hole in the top. If the dwarf cichlids your are talking about are apistogramma, this works perfectly. Just get the 2nd or 3rd smallest pot. If you don't like the look, just push it down into the substrate more so you can't really see the top.
