Okay, I found a new spot with some baby delhezis today.

One was kinda skinny and very skittish but had nice pattern, looks like my del.

The other didn't have as nice of a pattern, but was very active and not shy when I put my hand up to the tank.

Also, it is kind of looking short body, and thicker than the other one.

Which would you choose?

I picked nice pattern because you can always train them into bold creatures.
Starving does the trick usually.

I would take the skittish one with the nicer pattern. Give him about a week to get settled in your tank and he'll act normally. I'd rather have one with a nicer pattern than one that didn't look so good but was really active. If they start out ugly, they'll probably always be ugly. it's true for fish and true for girls too.

My experience has been that a skittish bichir can stay that way, and start to freak out new arrivals into being skittish.

I know that the 'decent' one would never look as nice as the other one since, but the semi-sb thing earned points with me.

Why was there no option to choose both.

Because that's the easy answer. IF you only had space for one, what would you be willing to compromise and why?

Hmmm... I think i'd get the more active one. Let your other del be the pretty one. lol

I'd get the more active/bolder one. Gotta love a thick, well-fed poly. Skittish fish annoy the heck out of me too, doesn't matter how good they look.

haha yeah thats a good one of looking at it. My other del is kinda shy, likes to hide in the plant but it's still young. It's not skittish though.

I agree which is why I was thinking of that one. Honestly in the end I might get both, but for now I'm trying to not go overboard.

I am really big on pattern i think a good pattern is amazing

I used to be too until I had a del that was just always skittish and would freak out the rest. In a crowded bichir tank, all it takes is one fish to go nuts and scare the others and that's when your fish start hurting themselves.
