If you're doing a pair, I would go with wild caught trimacs.
Too many people have jags and midas. Plus resale of offspring would be much easier.

Go with Trimacs! Very cool fish and not everybody has them. You could get Jags (also nice fish) at Petsmart for $3.99. So it's really up to you. I just got a Red Tiger Mota female thats coloring up nice, so you could consider RTMs if you can get them.
i had a hell of a time saleing all my trimac fry, at least local. if your motivation is profit i would not do any spawning. if you want to see the behavior that the fish show. then i would do trimacs but you needs lots of cover for the female. cant go wrong with trimacs
IMO Festae or RTM...............Out of the 3 variaties mentioned Jag's because I perefer their apperence over the other 2 but ultimately go with what you think is gonna be the best lookin' pair.
Id go for the trimacs, just make sure they are from a good source. Id agree that a 125 isn't large enough for macs tho. Id then go for a pair of Midas great fish full of spunk! Always though of a trimac as a midas that was just released from jail with tatoos and fire in its eyes.
i went with the jags since the lfs couldn't get the RTM's or trimacs and i didn't like the midas that he had and he dont order to often so i settled with the jags
