whats a cheap black background for my tank

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I don't get how ppl want cheap backgrounds cheaper then the ones the LFS sells. How expensive could it be? Where I'm from it cost about 2-3 bucks a foot (double sided colors black/blue) and if u can spend lots of money on fish tanks and fish then u can afford a background from a LFS...

Why black? I have heard SO much good feedback from dark subtrate and negative feedback from white subtrate that I decided to go with the Tahiti Moon black sand in one of my 135's. They say that white will flush the color from your fish, while black makes for better coloration.

The four juvinile fish housed in the 135 with the tahiti moon sand might as well have been chamelions! Yea, they darkened up alright and are now for the most part invisible to the naked eye. Not the result that I was looking for.

I hope that you have better luck then I did.

I agree with the Dark sand makes the fish colors Blend in not pop out. I have light sand and a black background. My plants really stand out and look great with the black background.

i have a light substrate as well this is why i wanted a black background

Black tar paper. Get a roll at home depot for like 8 bucks

Picked up a box of 2.5% limo tint (6ft) and a $.50 spray bottle from the cosmetics section at walmart. Came home and installed it myself with a credit card as a squeegee in about an hour. It's not hard to do but it does take a little patience. If you're intrested let me know and I'll go further into detail. Here's a pic..........

Silver fish look great with Black.

Uh, LFS background should be like a max of 2 bucks a foot, and you can get a kind that is adhesive or a kind that you just tape to the tank.
