I have a 20 gallon hex that will soon be a dwarf puffer species tank and I am in search of a good bottom feeder for this tank. I would say pygmy cories but I have very bad experiences with any cory cat with dwarf puffers. R.I.P. 7 different cories.
You could try shrimps. But it's a chance you'll have to take though. Your cleanup crew could just as well become an expensive meal for the dwarf puffers
x2 on that. Puffers are little hunters... I even tried a banjo catfish because he spent 98% of the time under the sand and only came out at night... Needless to say my puffer bit off everything that stuck out of the sand. Which is crazy because I can hardly ever see him myself! But his whiskers and tail fins are growing back nicely in another tank.
Al right thanks I have heard before that ottos are good with the nippier fish because they stay so small but wouldn't they make a better algae control unit than they would a bottom feeder like cories?
Their fins aren't armored. I have my DPs in with a fancy type of khuli loach. I saw the DPs peck at them at 1st but they seem to ignore them now. I think they are much faster-moving than any catfish. They also can squiggle into the plats & tight spaces the DPs won't bother going into.
