Whats a good feeder to stock?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I used to feed my aros freeze dried an frozen krill, then Tilapia fillet when they got bigger.

Want to fatten your aro up fast, feed him some live crickets or any insect you can find that aren't poisenous of course. Aro's mostly eat insects in the wild and this is what is natural to them and they will pound that cricket before it can get to your overflow. No parasites to worry about either from feeders.

Make a little float ring to keep food out of your overflows. They are simple and cheap to make.

I lucked out my arow only eats stick food. The risk of feeding your arow feeder fish is not worth it imo. The risk of introducing disease and parasites to the tank would go up.

But....

What if the feeders are bred in your own aquaria? ie. guppies or convicts.

The chance of introducing disease is down to almost nothing and the food is free!!!:D

i feed my big aro full shrimp, silversides, beefheart (ocasionally), hikari floating sticks and pellets, i tried fresh squid once but he didnt like it, he will not touch a feeder but will eat any dead fish there is. Right now he is about 2" thick from the top and 2' or so long I am not sure hard to measure him when he has so much room to get away. sometimes i throw in live crickets but he could eat 3 dozen at once he is a pig. I have thought about trying frozen pinkies (baby mice) but havent gotten to it yet.

I was pondering the idea, but I'll only have a 29gal tank for the breeders. Might be a little cramped for even one pair of convicts.
