I have a emp 400, and a penguin 350 running on my 75 but i feel like it could use more for polishing the water. I was thinging of running a in tank heater like a fluval or maybe swithing out the penguin for a ac70. Whatcha think?

I simply stuff some extra filter floss behind my penguin/emperors to filter out any extra particles. I've found this works particularly well when dealing with a green water outbreak, but have used it to "clean up" my water as well.

When I want to truly polish my water, I drag out my ol' trusty Magnum 350 with the micro polishing filter. I keep my other filters going, but will run the 350 for a day or so. It seems to work pretty good for this :)

Truth be told imo thats about the only thing the Magnum 350 is good for but def agree.. if you want to invest in a "polishing" unit these are a nice one to have laying around. I had one for approx 12 years before it recently crapped out on me. It was very good for this duty and also used it as a spare if I had any emergencies.

Hmm, im planning on getting one of those "polishing" filters. Should I get the HOT magnum 250 or the 350 one? Which is better?

Use a diatom filter if you really want crystal clear water.

I do pretty much the same. I have mine set up on timer to only come on for about 4 hours a day total. I use both carbon and the polishing cartridge with good results. Pretty much useless aside from that and they are serious power hogs, but they polish very well....

If you can afford it get the magnum 350. The 250 is great because you can hang it on the back or sides but the sleeve and media basket are pretty small. The 350 polishing sleeve is pretty good sized and you can pack alot more, carbon, purigen, etc. in it's media basket. Set up like any normal canister...

Old school design , but they last forever and polish well....

Mine is going on close to 20 years.... Second impeller...... solid

diatoms are unmatched when it comes to the ability to polish water

HOT mag 250 IMO is the superior filter over the 350 because of the flexibility... Its easily portable to change between tanks because of the size and hang on tank design, the media is easily changed out or cleaned, and when it comes down to it the 350 is kind of a pain. I don't want to mess with a canister when I have to constantly clean or change out media that is necessary when using a filter as a water polisher.
