I never said that fish COULDNT peacefully live together if not introduced at small sizes, I just said that in my personal opinion it helped the chances of peaceful co-existence.
oh i know that. i wasn't trying to say that so long as you introduce them young that everything will be fine. i was trying to agree with what you were suggesting, that [as you just said] it will help the chances. i merely meant that as an example. there's no chance on earth that i'd try putting any sort of community fish or fragile fish in with my oscar, no matter how peaceful he may seem or how young he is. he's an oscar, and i don't think of him as anything but. i'm not going to think of the possible outcomes of putting any fish with him as anything but worse case scenario, because whatever experiences someone else has had with their specific fish does not affect how my fish turns out, and it does not change the amount of aggression that he is capable of exhibiting. let me revise what i said before; what i meant to say when i first posted about people recommending introducing other fish to oscars when young was that it seems to be the case that an aggressive fish may be less aggressive with a tankmate when introduced young, and that it is recommended that if you are trying for a tankmate with an aggressive fish that you should introduce them at a young age rather than an older age. but none of that guarantees any outcomes with any fish, especially when it comes to the more aggressive ones.
