What's a good price for a nice sized H.tatauia?

Does anyone know how long it takes to make a 10" Tat?

Armatus are a dime a dozen. Not sure I paid $180 for my trio. Most people will never be able to house a FULL grown Armatus where as that tank that's not quite big enough may be more then enough for a Tat.

With a Tat you can stuff money (more fish) in a tank without worrying about it getting eaten unlike being surprised at how large of tank mates Armatus can consume. You open up a whole new world of Characins you could keep with it, "manageable" ones...... Odoe, Cynos, Rhaphs, Cudas.......

IF I saw it a LFS it's worth 2 ATF to me.... $200.

Personally I'd get it just cause with proper care we could all see how big those things get...... 10" is years of work you'd have a jump start on. ;)

It's not what we think about the price. It's what it's worth to you. There is something to be said for being happy with a nice fish in your tank.

It would take years to get a Tat to 10". What is he eating at the LFS? My opinion Tats are almost as mean as Armatus. I was thinking after he gashes a few eyes out and eats all the LFS feeder fish I am thinking the store will be ready to sell it for a great deal!

This exactly.

I'd pay that much for a 10" Tat especially a local fish - you can see it eat, low stress from transport, and no shipping cost. Don't tell me were it's at or I'll jump on the turnpike and snatch it up.

Hah!...thought you'd gone completely to the dark side..Thanks all for your input.

I get large tat in time to time and I sell at $140-160 around 9-10" here in canada. Currently have an 8" selling for $120

I bought an 8 inch red tail tat for $80
Not sure the lfs new what they had but I did :D
I would try to negotiate with them on price though and see where it goes you never know
But like mentioned above you don't have to worry about the stress of shipping or it making it to you alive not to mention the cost of shipping
So with certain fish if you get lucky enough to find them in a lfs sometimes paying that extra money out weighs everything else so in my opinion it's not a horrible price
But I would definitely try to negotiate with them and see where it goes it doesn't hurt to try

I was thinking it would take 6 to 8 years to grow a Tat to 10". That would be legendary a 10" Tat and being local without any shipping cost I feel 180 is a great deal!

I think I'll go back on my days off and see if I can do a little haggling. They also have a rare African cichlid that caught my eye.I have had tats before, much smaller of course and I knew they didn't grow anywhere near as fast as armatus but I wasn't aware they took that long to get some decent size on them.

How big do tats get I just picked one up today for 100 and is 7-8 inch. ( sorry if I'm posting in the wrong thread)
