Hello everyone. Just looking for some ideas on a starter lizard for my son. Something that doesnt grow to big and is not to skittish. You know how little kids are they want to be able to hold them. Is a Leopard Gecko good? Or a Fat tail Gecko? Some help will be great. The next reptile expo around me is Sept 13. Would love to have an idea on what to get.

Leopard, Fat-tailed and Crested are all good starter gecko species. You'll just have to warn the kids not to pull on the tails. ;)

if you want to get a gecko go for a leopard gecko as they come in all different morphs/colors and a low price for most. You could also try fat tails but try and get a cb one, they are really mellow geckos

Is a bearded dragon ok or is that too much for a 6 year old?

Crested Gecko :) Here is a pic of my xD.

For a six year old the bearded dragon will be the only choice. Everything else is nocturnal and will have issues with a 6 yr old holding them ex... tail pulling/falling off with all the gecko species recommended.

the old ANOLE (pet shop chameleon, not a true chameleon). They change colors. i'm not a lizard person but i remember them in pet stores when i was a kid.

Anoles are also cheap and small. i don't think you want to invest in some expensive lizard, until you know your son is going to enjoy lizards and accept responsibility for maintaining one.

Leopard gecko or bearded dragon they can both be handled eventually they should be able to just sit on your shoulder and chill once they are comfortable being held
