For a six year old the bearded dragon will be the only choice. Everything else is nocturnal and will have issues with a 6 yr old holding them ex... tail pulling/falling off with all the gecko species recommended.
100% agreed and you beat me to it:D Also blue tongue skinks are a great choice. But a cople of prevencion words. First both animals are in average very docile but you do get like in every single being in this planet individuals that dont like to be handled at all of both species and that can give a nasty bite. My best recomendacion I can give you is to insted of buying a baby of either (wich is a kind of a white page of personality and that your son could acidently cause some distress to it that could case it to become afraid of humans, putting apart that baby lizards are delicate beings pysicaly) I higly sugest that you try to find a already tamed and completly docile adult in need of a good home, you see them all the time on kingsnake and the fact that its a adult lizard means that your child will become less frigthning to it and also it already has lot of "experience with humans" so to speak and so it will be easy to handle. But you make shure it is docile. A adult lizard already has its defenitive personality so it is unlikely to become agressive for no reason.
Second dont forget that your child must always be kept under close wach wille handling the lizard, it has to be teached to put mr lizard back if it shows distress and to not toch mr lizard if he its eating, sleeping or basking. Most lizards love to free roam and that its the proper time to interact. Lastly but not least is crucial before and after handling mr lizard or any other pet that he washes hands. Have fun:D both are really nice lizards

the old ANOLE (pet shop chameleon, not a true chameleon). They change colors. i'm not a lizard person but i remember them in pet stores when i was a kid.
Sorry but...how do I say this midly...NO!:grinno: Anoles are completly hands of pets, just the simple walking by of people make them frigtned let alone the ruffhousing handling of a lilte kid:nilly:Thats hell for them. They cant help it, they are food for most things in the wild and here they are in what in their limited knowlege is the jaws of a giant predator! Also even if they tame up(wich should I ad only ocurrs VERY rarely and only in the big species) they are still very delicate ligth beings, a simple error in handling and they lose their tail or break a bone. The best that they allow you to do its to sit by brief moments on your hands and thats it. Also if they feal cornered they can deliver a very strong bite. They are NOT good pets for kids or for any person that its unwilling to basicly give them the same kind of atencion a tetra needs. See, dont make sudden moves and dont handle unless its stricly necessary
