whats a good turtle

I have a baby Stinkpot Musk Turtle as well and he rarely leaves the water to bask anymore. They do like to walk along the bottom of a tank as opposed to swimming around. Even though he doesn't bask, I still give him a place to get out of the water to bask.

Agreed. I recently moved mine from a 20g to a 65g, with basking areas and heat lamps in both. In the 20, he basked frequently. I haven't seen him out of the water in the bigger tank. It's been over a month.

My RES never comes out of the water, she has a large area to come out of the water, but she just doesnt. I place her on the basking are and she stis there for a minute or two, then dashes back into the water, I do take her outside alot though were she walks around quite a bit.

well im get two map turtles there going in a 4x2x2 for now and will end up in a 6x2x2 when they need it im picking them up on mon got the two for £30 i can`t wait

You know Nic, they are native to PA but I've never seen one no matter where or how hard I look. I hear they are quite a secretive species.

They are quite rare, I'm from CT (well until last year anyway) and I might stumble across a spotty once every year or so. They're less aquatic than just about any local turtle up there (except for box of course, and wood), and when I'd find them it would be in more marshy type places than around ponds where painteds dominate.

I tried keeping one back in the day, and after a week or 2 with it taking nothing but bits of whitefish I let it go...but they are nice looking little turtles.

they like to hide and don't want to be found unless you know where to look... they are also protected in pa and jersey and I think most other states too... so if found don't catch them...
