Whats a good way to lower PH?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
RO water or CO2 injection are the best ways to keep it stable. Most of the buffers and Peat don't last long enough and you get spikes. Why are you wanting to lower the PH?

Adding driftwood to your tank will also lower ph.

i always stick to one rule when it comes to water perameters, stable is always better than spot on, obviously without going to extremes like if your water is ph8.5 when it comes out the tap. a lot of fish wont cope with that so it has to be lowered or stick to rift lake species.
fish can get real unhappy about changing water chems constantly.
the only real exceptions to that rule are discus, other very delicate species and african rift lake species.

i am currently changing my south american show tank into a planted tank/dwarf cichlid i am lowering the ph with a co2 injection kit along with ro water my tank has always had a lot of wood im currently in the planting stage.... the tank had been holding 7.6 for about a year.... ive been doing water changes with ro and using peat along with the co2 has knocked it down a bit.... the only way to hold a low ph is to start the tank using entirely ro water without any natural buffer and go from there
