whats a really good filter for....?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
just another vote for Eheims . . . I use the Classic series on my tanks, been running 'em for years w/ very few problems . . .

for 55G you probably only need one 2217 or 2215 filter . . . but I would use two 2215s, if I were setting up a new tank . . .

for cheap and good look at rena xp3...

Azaming what people will recommend for other people to spend there money on. Unless you are going to improperly stock your 55g an Eheim 2215 or a properly setup rena xp2 will be more then enough filter. The eheim may be the better deal as it comes with the all the needed media. The xp only comes with foam so you will ahve to purchase the bio media separate.

I agree. I have them on four tanks (XP3's and XP4's). They are quiet and reliable (no leaks yet in 2 years). They also work well and are a decent price. What more do you want?;)

I know exactly what you mean; personally, I think the Eheim 2215 should be fine, but since I like to over-filter, I also told him what I would do, which is have two 2215s . . .

another reason I like to have two filters on a tank is that I can stagger my filter cleaning . . .

I have a rena xp3 on my 75 an im adding 2 ac 110's also for a total of 1350 gph, 18 turnover rate, you would like to be between 5-10 turnovers per hour, so around 275-to 550 gph depending on what fish your putting in there, i just dont think ehiem's move enough water but, I still hear good things about them, but, i think people just buy them
because "everyone" has them
