Sorry to join this thread so late. We had a death in the family, so I have been out of town for 2 weeks.
I have 3 schoutedeni together in a community tank that is 110 gallons. I originally started the puffers together in a 40 gallon tank for quarantine purposes. They did well in the 40 gallon tank, but the puffers were fairly small at the time. I wouldn't put a trio in anything smaller than a 40 gal.
I have had my puffers in with corydoras, long-finned white clouds, super red plecos, choprae danio, and some killies, and I have had no issues. Be aware that you can have a little chewing on plants by the schouti's. They love to explore plants and will rest in the when the lights go out.
Good luck!
