What's causing high ph???

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Thanks for all the info guys. I just did a 60% water change, pulled the rocks out. PH is now at 7.4. I will test again in 24hrs. Put all the rocks in a bucket with tap water, will teat that tomorrow as well.

To answer a couple of questions above, tap tests at 6.8-7.2, no air stones in tank, using the fx5 exhaust to break water on top.

Thanks again to everyone. Hopefully be able to make a Rapps order soon :-)

Alright, checked PH this morning and it's back up to 8. How would water hardness raise ph? If this is the problem, what can I put in my tank to make my water softer? Hopefully something natural, I don't really like to add things just to remedy the problem, I'd rather fix it.

Thanks

Will

shells, coral or something like that is raising it prolly

you said your substrate is "pool filter sand" . . . do you know what it was made from?

I don't know what the filter sand is made from. Still have to test water at 6pm today. Hopefully it'll be better.

whats wrong with ph of 8? hard water will buffer your ph so no matter what you do as far as water changes it wont budge. Only thing you are doing is stressing out your fish. If it was me I would leave it all alone and do weekly water changes with prime

You know most PH levels of tap water will rise after it has been aerated for 24hrs..........

Agreed again.

Just let it be. Do weekly WC's with Prime and let it be. Your overthinking.

Kk. Thanks guys. I just want my water perfect for my fish. This will be the first time that I'm actually taking care of my water like I should. I just don't want any problems once I get my fish in here.
