What's Dat? (Load Warning)

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
jlnguyen74 seems to have kept quite a few ST's in the past so for him to say this is an IT, I would have to agree with him.
You will be able to find pics that will support your theory, as anyone could find Dat pics to support any theory such as...
Tail strips don't matter, height doesn't play a roll in sexing, ect. The problem is that nothing is 100% when it comes to IDing ST/IT,
because you can find oddballs out there that don't fit the standard. That is true with almost all fish.

I am just hapy that jlnguyen74 is calling it an IT and not an ST just because thats what he wants it to be, like so many people on this forum do.

But you are right when you say that, that IT would cost just as much as an ST at that size.

I suppose, but that is either a rare 4-bar IT with uneven middle bars that happen to match on each side w/ an unusually high body OR an UBER rare 4-bar ST!! Gr8 tiger either way and I want!

Oh and not to take anything away from jlnguyen74 as Im not directing this to him at all but after working at a LFS for several years Ive learned that because one has kept fish/ a fish for a long time doesnt mean they know everything. I cant even tell you how many times Ive heard "Ive kept fish for 25 years, I dont need to do no stankin water changes!" LoL

I still want some one to post an equal sized 4-bar IT for comparison for ****s and giggles!

I REALLY think that is an ST. The body shape is totally ST and the last body bar lacks that "hump" or "saddle" that ITs usually have also the middle bars do sweep backwards.
You are not the first one who said that. A close friend told me so a few months ago, but base on the common population on how to ID that, I don't want to start WWIII on MFK :ROFL: And that friend of mine have seen many dats in his life, so I would say he ID them very properly :naughty:

I agree with you that although I have quite a few dats, I'm no expert. I'm just a hoarder  Really, I just give up on the ID part, and just price the fish on its look when I buy. If I like, I pay :)

I call "him" an IT, cuz I want to share some pic of my fish without having my post closed :ROFL::ROFL: Wait, scratch the "him" and replace with "it" before someone ask how can I tell if that's a "him" or "her" ;)

It may very well be an ST, this is usually one of the times I would stay out of it, because to be honest
I am not sure. But I have NEVER heard someone saying they have a IT when they really have a Pulcher.
But I have seen the opposite quite a bit on the Dat forums.

The combo of the few IT traits it has and the fact that the owner is calling it an IT is what makes me say IT.
You have to remember 4 bar Indos were not all that rare at all years ago, infact I have only recently seen in
the last few years the rise of 3bar/4bar, half bars, split bars, O bars, Ybars, and so on. In the past all I saw
were 4 bar Indos, and since this guy is 14" it is likely that it is a 4 bar indo.

But I am with you when you say keeping a fish wont make you an expert even if it was for years, but it definitely
doesn't hurt.

Also when you say "I want":grinno:

Sorry to ramble...

haha...come on bro...i can't possibly grow that beast any larger so no "interests" what so ever...plus i was planning to buy something at the time of my sale so i was trying to get as much as i can so i didnt have to put that much out of pocket...part of this expensive hobby =)...hope you understand that one particular time...

but no interests =)...are you thinking about it?

dont need dats bro...you have a bad arse collection already hahaha

Well, you gotta wait until I post it for sale with a PRICE, then you can say if it's an IT's price or ST's price :headbang2:ROFL:
