My tank has been running for about 10 months now. My bio load IMO wasnt/isnt heavy at all. For the first few months I had 4 8" pygos. Now I have a 7" ray, two dats no more then 7", a 8" peacock bass, and 10" bichir.

About a month ago I cut up hostas (I think that is what they are called but those common house plant vine) and put several in my tank and now the root are everywhere.

I think my problem is my tap water. Believe it or not my tap has an ammonia reading of about 1ppm and a nitrAte reading of 40ppm...

Call your city or county water dept and ask for a breakdown of the water chemistry, see if they have any answers. Are they using chloramine?

Dr Joe

.

It does have chloramines and I use Prime as a water conditioner. What would they tell me that I couldnt test for myself. Or what questions I should ask them because I already know what the ammonia and nitrate levels are.... Oh and its VERY hard water with a Ph of about 7.8.

I have a large wet and dry, 2 outlets from my 400usg into large towers with 3700l return also a eheim pro3 rated at 1700lph and two 2300l internals doing 50% water every 5 days
parameters are fine buy i still not happy with the water clarity from the rays waste..

Looking mostly to see if want they SAY it should be and then if it's different maybe they can help.

on my 75 i have 1 penguin 350 and two emp 400 filterss and one penguin 1140 powerhead.:headbang2

on my 40 is one ac 200 and a magnum 250 pro

I have a sump for mechanical and bio-filtration, and an off-line wet/dry for added bio-filtration. It is kind of an overkill (filtering three stacked 20g tanks) untill you realize one of my tanks is way overstocked.

My smaller tanks have HOB's with bio-wheels. One of them has a UGF, and I am setting up a 30g with a UGF and probably a HOB.

on my 105G i use 2x eheim 2128 and 1x eheim 2260 (at least by the end of the week) and my 110G has an eheim 2080, eheim 2217 and 2213 running. and some internal filters for poop pickup.
