I was just wondering how you guys would price hybrid rays. I've recently had some pearl/motoro hybrids, so would you price the ray at the middle cost of both rays or would you price the rays lower or higher than middle. Or do you ignore both ray costs and price according to the patterns on the pups? What should be a general rule for hybrid pricing?

I would base it on appearance followed by the bloodline. A prime example is the guy in the media lounge that got 3 different looking rays out of one mix. Would you sell them all for the same price or ask more for the nicer and less for the least attractive? Yours have pearl in them but if then end up looking like a motoro then to me they are not worth as much. I hope this helps some LOL! I would start pricing in the middle and move up or down depending on quality.

Worth what a buyer would pay. Many ray keepers wouldn't take money to have a mixed ray in the collection.
yet others would gladly pay extra to have something a little different.
Like you said, its worth whatever a buyer wants to pay.. just gotta test the waters.

lol no pun intended.

lol thanks guys for the help. I feel bad charging more for what I think is a nice pup which could turn out not so nice and less for something not so nice as a pup which could be stunning. Do you then get people that are pissed at you for paying more for a ray that doesn't turn out. Anyone have any experiences like this?
I've just been charging the same for them all and hoping they all turn out.lol

Hopefully most people buying a young ray know that their patterns change as they get bigger and realize that it is a risk (if you want to call it that)that goes along w/ buying a young ray.

Remember when one of the vendors was only having luck breeding hybrids, people paid big money then they tried to resell them. Nobody bought them. Nobody like the fowerhorn rays.

i always say "price to sell" :D

i would rather make the buyer extra happy he bought from u!!

As a buyer, I wouldn't mind paying more for a unique design. Like others have stated though, it depends on what people would pay for it. These so called designer dogs (i.e. cockapoos) cost a pretty penny because people will pay a pretty penny...when they are essentially muts!

But if the hybrids looked like regular motoros, I wouldn't pay more for them. I'd just buy a regular motoro if I wanted it. On the other hand, my mantilla/marbled's pattern is unique so if I were to sell it, I'd charge based on its unique design...which would likely be more than some other more common type of pattern. Just my two cents.
