FYI amoxicillin kills gram positive bacteria.

That's what i thought, but i read somewhere that it is also broad spectrum. I found this link with several types of antibiotics.... Can someone help me out with choosing which one would be the most effective. I can basically get any antibiotic from the pharmacy, i just need to know which one to get. Thank you.

No more amoxycillin as this is for gram positive bacteria and of no use in this situation. I am now dosing 250 mg/10 gallons or 2500 mg (100 gallon tank) of (Keflex) Cephalexin for 7 days ...once per day. Also added one package of Tetra Fungus Guard which contains nitrofurazone, furazolidone, and potassium dichromate for any secondary fungal infections. Beneficial bacteria is gram negative so it will be affected by the Cephalexin, but I am adding Seachem Stability to try and balance that out. Also lowered temps to 77 degrees and added 1 tablespoon salt per gallon (6 cups). I hope this works and I hope I don't kill all my other fish with all this medicating :(

maracyn 2 contains minocycline which is of the tetrocycline group of antibiotics, im pretty sure regular tetrocycline wont work unless water chemistry is of particular values tho...

happy new year dude, hope you find some maracyn 2, can get it on ebay btw.

You need to post water parameters in order for us to suggest the most appropreate meds. Dropping the temp and adding salt will help slow the progression but will not cure the fish the antibiotic may or may not be of any use depending on your water. I need parameters in numbers to help, ammonia, nitrites, nitrates, ph and hardness if available. The sooner the better.

No problem...
Ammonia - API test kit shows .25ppm, Seachem AmmoniaAlert shows 0ppm (I use prime)
Nitrites - 0ppm
Nitrates - 40ppm-60ppm
PH- 7.4-7.6
Water is Los Angeles H2O, I believe it leans more towards the hard side

Thank You in advance and Happy New Year!

Try using Kanamycin combined with Furan 2 (Nitrofurazone).
