I'd do a 70% water change make sure temp is up to 89 and add a good amount of salt, then I'd do 30% water changes everyday adding salt each time until the eye's are cleared up and the wounds are healed.

...Then I'd change those awful rocks to bare bottom or sand...;)

Also, make sure there is some cover in your tank away from the heaters location in your tank, even if it's just one or two tall plants... Just in case these wounds we are seeing are being caused by sleeping around the heater and getting burned causing these wounds. If there is no cover in the tank for them to sleep around at night I have seen pbass sleep around or behind the heater and get burned, just keep this in mind.

x2...do it asap!

Ammonia is extremely toxic at that temp. He needs to stabilize the cycle before he goes jacking the heater.

If you want your Pbass to live and get better I'd do as I'd suggested.. I have over 40 pbass and have been raising them for years and know what to do. I'd think twice before taking advise from others that don't keep pbass and know what they need. Say taking advise from a person that keeps and breeds disk fish and he is advising you on how to care for your pbass... Stick to the advise of your fellow cichla keepers, we'll take care of you ;)

1. You are ASSUMING that we've never/ don't keep pbass.
2. It isn't about fish. It's science. NH3 will burn a piece of ham if it is dropped in a tank with high concentrations. It doesn't matter what type of fish it is, they all react the same to toxins.
Quote from another site: As far as the ammonia, temperature and pH will affect the form of ammonia in your tank (i.e. un-ionized ammonia (NH3) which is toxic to fish, and ammonium ions (NH4+) which is non-toxic except at extremely high levels. The proportion of NH4+ to NH3 changes with changes in pH and temperature. Generally speaking the proportion of the un-ionized ammonia increases as temperature and pH increase. Put simply, a decreasing temperature should not cause any issues, a increasing temperature may.
3. No matter what type of fish you keep, if you have been keeping (any) fish for that long and are still experiencing frequent cycle crashes ( as you've implied by your extensive knowledge on the topic), you are doing something wrong.

Assuming I know nothing about pbass, are you implying that temp and ph don't affect ammonia? Or that pbass need toxic ammonia?
