very begginer, i know.
but im looking to upgrade to 55g so i can get a school of bala sharks,

but i want to get rid of my rainbow shark, he likes nibling my other fish but i knew that when i bought him.
i want to have a variety of anglefish, and bala sharks, and like a bunch of small neons.

but any cool fish i can add with them, i was thinking about some plecos? any suggestions

Your bala will need a bigger tank 55 is too small. Get a 75 and leave ur stock the wat it is minus the other shark

I think you may need to modify the stock that you have now. Your betta is in for trouble before too long. They just can't swim fast enough to get away from your cats. I don't have any personal experience with balas, but I think that get pretty big. Plus, goldfish really put out a big bioload, so you may want to thinkl about rehoming them.

Bala and pictus are both schooling fish so you need to up their numbers.5 or 6 of each would be best. The rainbow shark will be fine with them, but you will need a pretty big tank to keep all of them together.150 gallons would probably be a good start.

The minnows(what kind?) and goldfish would be ok together.I am assuming your minnows are cold water.Depending on the kind of goldfish you have,a 55 gallon should be ok for them.75 or 90 would be better though.

Get a 5 gallon filtered and heated tank for your betta. It really is not suitable to keep with any of the fish your have.

i think 150 gallons is a bit more than he is thinking about as a beginner, personally i think he should rethink his stock.

I agree. After re-reading,it looks like that is what he is wanting to do.

To the OP,you should get rid of the balas too, they get very big.

If you get a 55 you could have some angels, and a school of larger tetra. The angels may eat smaller ones.Bristlenose plecos would fit in a 55.Then you could have a school of 6 or 8 corydora for bottom feeders.

Okay i've had everything/have it in this list.
Your rainbow shark is nibbling on things because it doesn't have enough room to have it's territory unbothered. If put in a bigger tank (55 gallon) he will leave everything alone, just get him a rock/cave he can stay in

As for the bala sharks, 55 gallons is not nearly enough for 3 of them. They get at least 12 inches in length, and will not be able to stay in there. You may want to sell those and get something smaller.

Plecos are good to have, but get only one. They get quite large.
Tetras are also a nice choice, but they are schooling so you need a min of 5-6.

Angelfish are iffy. If a full grown angel doesn't have enough room, he will attack everything in your tank (from experience, he's killed a fair share of my fish)
If you want 2 or more, you need at least a 30 for 2 full grown.

As a beginner, I would start with tetras, goldfish, minnows, and the catfish.
Good luck!

Some good advise and some bad advise giving so far. So lets start from the beginning.

1. rainbow shark: When these fish get older a 55 gallon is the minimum recommend size tank because they become very territorial.

2. bala shark: These fish get big 12 inch's plus. There also schooling fish and need to be kept in groups of 3 or more. There also very active swimmers so they will need a tank of at least 6ft.

3. pictus catfish: These fish are also very active and the minimum recommend tank size is 55 gallons. There best kept in schools when younger but when they get more mature they tend to form small groups. These fish are nocturnal but when kept in small groups tend to swim around more during the day.

2x minnows: More then likely these are white could minnows and they are coldwater fish not tropical and so there not going to work unless you want to go coldwater. If you do decide to go coldwater the fish you will have to choose from will decrease dramatically compared to tropical.

1x betta fish: Depending on if its a male or female. A male really should be in a tank my themselves but have been keep in community tanks successfully. If its a female then its a better chance it can be kept in a community then if its a male. Bettas don't like currents or strong moving water so depending on your filtration and water movement may not be a good idea.

3x goldfish: These are coldwater fish and can't be kept with tropicals due to temperature requirements.

As far as angels go in a 55 this would work but seeing you want neon this isn't a good idea seeing how the angel will eat them. I have heard though that if you get the angel when there really small and they grow up with the neons that sometimes it works. Also if you only have one angel it will be much more peaceful then if you have more then one. If you have more then one then tend get be more aggressive and tend to do a lot of fin nipping on other fish. Plecos would work with pretty much any fish but I would not suggest getting a common pleco because they get big like 2 feet but grow slow.

okay, well my uncle has 2 90g and i think he might have others, notsure but he just recently bought a 180 so i want to ask him for the 90 but i dont think my parents would allow me to have a 90 gallon in my room? oh wll, im gonna try for that
