looks like a "red line snakehead". petland used to carry them

Hmm 220 community tank and with bichirs. Sounds like he will be getting lots of protien. Good luck not jealous really of the giant snakeheads too big for me I prefer the smaller more colorful ones and I'm in Canada too snakes for Canadians. PS I think its dumb to ban them here they wont survive except the northern which is already banned.

I need to spark up my fish life

those are amazing fat homer! I would be jealous as hell.
They also had what was called "red tailed snakehead" they said if I call back in a few days they could give me the latin name on the invoice. they were brownish coloured. anyone know what they could be ?

Yeah, tell me about it... and those in the picture weren't even as nice as the ones i saw in store... too bad i don't have that kind of money to blow and a tank to house them or i would have definitely picked one up by now...

I want one! Too bad I live in the states :(. I'm definitely a little jealous.

Yeah I'm not specifically saying that you are all jealous of the species I have, but jealous that I have a snakehead!

Runitis I think its stupid too because only Channa Argus could possibly survive our winters and that species is almost never imported anyway. I have a small one so that I can grow him out with my stock and socialise him with other fish. I have read that large snakeheads will often do well with other robust similar fish like giant gourami's, pleco's some large species of catfish etc. If there was conflict with my stock I would do what I can to change the situation even if that meant moving my bichirs to other tanks. I have seen a lot of cool videos on youtube of people cohabing snakeheads with community predators and the main consensus seems to be that they need to be purchased small and grow up with tankmates. so heres hoping for the best.

Some pics of him settled in and after eating a small goldfish

I keep the goldfish I feed to my gar in the same tank, I figured that some of the smaller more weak goldies would fall victim to the snakehead which is fine by me, nice to see him eating so soon

I'm hoping the best for you, too. My 250 gallon is 32" wide and as much as I want to keep at least one, I am extremely hesitant. Unlike other fish, they have the teeth to dismember any fish or even injure you especially past 20". If they go psychotic one day while I'm at the office, I don't know how to handle that without the snakehead kissing the floor. I have researched community snakeheads and all that I read were removed due to this very reason. Like their Asian neighbor, the giant gourami, they can go into a few days of mood swings which leave you with only but one fish. That is even after you have grown them with the fish at a young age. I took my gamble with a GG so fingers crossed you may be lucky with this one as well.

Nice little guy if well fed he will easily grow an 1"+ a month. Just make sure you have a secure lid as they love to jump and are very powerful fish once larger.

Follen I actually cut a heavyish piece of wood to size to fit on the grow out tank before I'd even released him from the bag.

Naos I read this too about snakeheads and giant gouramis. Aswell as a lot of other large growing predatory fish. Right now my GG is okay but at around a foot long he goes into these moods where he will beat the **** out of my chocolate cichlid. I am aware that any kind of snakehead and even GG's have the ability to wipe out an entire tank over night but I have also seen many instances of snakeheads and GG's cohabbing with other fish. I guess I am up for the challenge.

Both giant gourami's and Giant snakeheads have an overlapping range and would share water with eachother in the wild. I have also read that in some warmer asian countries both of those fish are often used as ornamental pond fish.

One step ahead haha what I like to hear, and in my experience a single baby micro are very skittish if kept on there own to about 10" I've kept a few and they always seem to do better with more than one. True monster fish you got there good luck and keep us updated.
