well i have just found another site which has got some real interesting info
look at the potamotrygon sp section top right pic
mine could be an even spottier version of that although mine has pronounced spotting more on the disc edges than its back which is more of a pattern.

http://www.raubwelse.de/galerie/rochen/rochen.htm

i am wondering if quite a few of the scobina web pics are these sp versions or scobina types.
i will find out where it was collected.
whatever it turns out to be its nice and if it grows huge i will sell it for a small type ray again.

Sharptooth got a pair of these from the same place although his have less spots are smaller and have more of a pattern

i am curious now
thanks Ming

one thing's for sure, it's NOT a scobina and there are no known scobina variants, therefore, yours if definitely a Potamotrygon sp., but often times indentified as a motoro variant.

oh yeah, I believe scobinas come from Brazil and they are one of the smallest ray species available, no more than 12".

yep 12'' and thats why i wanted one or a histrix due to my 180g being its tank for life.
we will see how this grows it looks very nice so i am keeping it

Looks great Dixon :)

Nice looking ray Dixon, but I have to agree with Ming. Didn't think it really looked like scobina either. It's a shame - would have been great if you'd really managed to find one. A while ago John at ECZS was selling some rays that looked very similar to yours under the name "gold dot rays". I tried to get an ID on them and the concensus seemed to be that they were a motoro morph.
