What's in the Box?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
In the corner i took that pic there is almost no current.
But along the backside there is a pretty good flow because of the outtake of my fluval fx6.
During the day he relaxes the most of the time in the flowless area and swims against the current at night.
Seems to be very nocturnal^^

I can't belive that i have this fish already since two months already.^^
Rudy is doing very well and already grew about 1 - 2 cm .
I'll try to get a good pic the following days.

Any updates on this giant
Yes, sure
It is a stable eater. I'm feeding Tilapia and smelts.
At the beging it grew very fast, but it seems to stagnate at ~12-13" .
The only thing that's a pity, is that i got very shy since it's in the new tank.
But after a few months it seems to get better.
I'll try to make a pic during feeding time tomorrow.

Wow, thanks for the response. Ive read that they take sometime adjusting to a new setup but overtime they get comfortable again, just takes time. Id love to see more pics if you have them. I myself just bought my first HLG Goonch today, any tips about care in general for these monster fish.

Sorry, i coulnd't take a picture today... i hade a verry stressful day.
I don't know if i can get you many tipps.
Apart from the shyness mine is very uncomplicated. As far as i can tell it seems very insensitive about temperature, water hardness, etc...
At first i kept mine in very hard water and now in my new apartment i keep it in moderate hard water...it doesn't seem to matter.
It isn't interested in caves, but enjoys edges it can rest on.
I offten heard that they like fast flowing water, but i would recommend to have parts with different flow speeds in your tank, so it can rest if it wants.
About the food: meat, meat, meat !!
Smelts, tilapia, shrimps (but not every day becaus of the thiaminase), etc ...
Mine is not interesten in tablets at all.
Feeding with tweezers did more or less work "out of the box".

It's hard to take a good Picture of a shy fish.
But for the beginning, i think, this is better than nothing:
