Whats in the future for fishkeeping?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
i don't think it's a metter of young people not keeping fish forever. i think as stated young budgets usually don't offer the money needed for a setup (that and video games take a lot of that attention now). also lets face it high school and college aged people for the most part are still on low budgets, and there are other activities that are more appealing to most of them. but i believe some of those same people will still find the hobby, it won't die. it just may always be more of an older hobby

blame wal-marx if that place would not have come to fruition then all the other one stop shops would not be carrying fish and fish accesories the idea of someone trying to tell me what kind of fish to buy then what type of T.V. to buy is obsurd

but i think the best inovation listed so far is trying to get a water-changless system only needing top off water from evap that would bee sweet to be able to keep your water perameters perfect think of it u could keep HUGE tanks and not worry about the water bill

Don't see how that is ever possible. Water changing in my house is Vacing the gravel also to get rid of the solid waste and poo.

Well put Chef. I dont think the local stores will completely die out. As long as there are hobbyists looking for something different then someone will be there to fill that niche. Box stores like WM work well for casual and basic needs shopping but walk down the street and ask the first 5 people you see wearing jeans where they got them (exclude yourself if you live in a rural area w/o a mall, thats skewed:D). If theres a local demand there will be a local supply.

what I'm seeing is more and more interest in smaller dwarfed species "nano" fish

so that would be our future and less and less people would have bigger tanks making monsterfishkeepers a rare breed...
