what's in the QT?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
yeah, I have a aquaclear 20 on my 6 gallon fluval edge. Would you recommend AC110 over a cannister for 100gals? It's on a 55, but I might convert it to salt eventually(after I get my big tank).

check this out: someone must have had a snack: da f***?!

I would absolutely use an ac110 over a canister. Just much essier to maintain andthey fit a surprisingly large amount of bio. On a 100 gal i'd probably put two 1would be fine for a 55. When you have some spare cash you could buy 30ppi poret foam from swiss tropicals. It will have your water crystal clear. Its much denser than the reg stock foam that comes filters. You just cut it to fit.

Hmm. I'm all about low maintenance lol. Maybe I'll just do HOB until I can build a sump and a big tank like yours. Do you think I should replace my penguin 350 with the aquaclear 110? I still have a bunch of cartridges for the 350, but would have to buy new biowheels and grates(again). Not sure how well it was filtering and it was loud. Debating whether or not to reuse it, or get an aquaclear.

I love my AC110, luckily my dad bought it for me :p

Why not both?

good point. :)
Also that is awesome that your dad bought it for you.
It just works so well and is easy to clean.

He funded the filter and a Jaeger heater to help get me started :)

that's awesome. Yeah I do like the Aquaclears. They are a lot quieter compared to the penguin 350. Just trying to figure out if I want to drop the money on it.

update: Sherwin Williams in my area doesn't carry garnet abrasives. Called the emerald creek garnet carrier in my area and they don't carry the barton red or idaho purple. If they ordered it, I'd have to buy a pallet(~40 bags). lol. The search for garnet continues. :) Wondering if I should just get the tank up and running (bare bottom) and then add substrate later. Tractor supply only has 80 grit black bull. Will be emailing Barton.

Do you get yellow pool filter sand? I can only get red garnet and I think poll filter would be more natural in a yellowish colour
